Enrico Cucchiani takes the helm at Italy’s biggest retail bank, Intesa.

He is tasked with steering the company through the worsening sovereign debt crisis.

Cucchiani joins from Allianz, where he was on the management board and held responsibility for western Europe, Africa and Latin America. An ex-McKinsey consultant, Cucchiani applied his consulting experience in a variety of industries and companies before joining Allianz. He spent 15 years with with the firm and in a 2005 FT interview he talked of his plans to create his “own McKinsey internally”, building a team of smart, talented employees tasked with driving effectiveness. He and his team made a significant impact and he will no doubt be looking to replicate this as he tackles Intesa’s planned efficiency drive, together with a boost to international operations.
